It is important for businesses to remain aware of their operational landscape and to adapt and change as needed to survive. Often business managers can continue to operate tried and tested methods that worked in the past but may not be relevant to today.
When implementing a change into the business, for example a new project management tool or process, it is important to make the change relevant to the people who are going to be using it. This will help embed the new tool or process and make it a success.
Change in projects is inevitable, regardless of the field that your business is in. It is vital that as part of the project preparation process that you consider how you will handle change. If you have a robust process in place and agreed with the client, it will make it much easier to manage change when it occurs.
Management, in projects and generally, will always undertake a lessons learned exercise. The problem is that often the lessons learned aren’t applied and the same lessons are “learned” every time a project is undertaken. time needs to be taken to implement the lessons learned for the benefit of future projects and business operations.
Project management is not just restricted to those actually in the profession. Many business managers, usually smaller businesses, perform project management in their services/product delivery – they just might not call it project management.
