A client is part of the project team and is an integral part of helping to deliver project success. Without the clients engagement, a project will flounder and only disappoint all parties involved. A client needs to be actively involved without being intrusive.
Sometimes projects don’t go as effectively as we would like. But yet we sit on them and trust that they will get better. But projects won’t – at least not on their own. They need to be guided and if they are going wrong, the problems need to be faced and addressed.
Project management planning is crucial to help deliver successful projects. Guesswork in defining tiemlines simply doesn’t work. Project management planning is about understanding what you are delivering based on both expertise and previous experience.
Project management is about the people who are part of that project. The end-recipient of the project output, the project team members and of course, the project manager. The ability of a project manager to deliver effectively is tied to the ability to manage people in different circumstances. Relying on processes and tools will not be enough if people engagement is lacking.
When delivering projects, there are both direct project costs and indirect costs i.e. the costs of running the business to backup the delivery of those projects. A factor for operational costs must be included in all projects that are being delivered in order to understand their overall impact on business profitability.
When implementing a change into the business, for example a new project management tool or process, it is important to make the change relevant to the people who are going to be using it. This will help embed the new tool or process and make it a success.
Project management is about delivering to the assigned project dates. But those dates have to be reasonable. If a business fails to plan a projects timelines correctly, it will fail – leading to losing money or a disgruntled client.
