Rage against the machine!

Businesses are challenged by clients to continiously reduce the cost of delivery. The drive is focused on cost and services businesses allow clients to undervalue what they are recieving. Mainly because so many businesses are just “the same” and have not created a value proposition that enables them to maintain their pricing.

Digging a hole

Fear can inhibit project managers and project teams alike when challenged with a project management issue. This can allow project issues to fester and create bigger holes or problems later. Better to create a climate that allows for issues to be dealt with quickly.

Where am I going?

When presented with project management or operational management challenges, sometimes it can be overwhelming. The sheer magnitude of the problem at hand seems to defy the ability to address and manage it. And yet it has to be. So how should this be done?

The Right Stuff

Having the correct project resources is imperative to ensuring success in a project. Often businesses can be pushed to offer starting a project before all of the right people are in place, but this will only damage the end result. Surely its better to wait until all project resources are in place prior to starting.

But you said you’d do that!

Getting a defined project scope understood and signed off by the client is critical to ensuring a smooth project. Without a signed off project scope, there will be debates that turn into disagreements that can totally ruin an otherwise perfect client relationship.

Why is your project delivery not working properly?

Often business project managers are aware of issues with their project delivery. But nothing is ever changed. Act quickly and with courage and see the benefits.

Is a client responsible for project success?

A client is part of the project team and is an integral part of helping to deliver project success. Without the clients engagement, a project will flounder and only disappoint all parties involved. A client needs to be actively involved without being intrusive.
