Effective customer communication is about talking to them in their language. What is the impact that your project is going to have on their business? Talk about outcomes and opportunities – not the processes to get there.
A dashboard is a great way of quickly presenting important business information to the management team. It must, however, deliver meaningful information otherwise it might as well not exist.
Some customers just seem to take all our time. The only way of dealing with this is to ensure you have your measures in place so you can deal in the facts and just the facts without any subjectivity.
The effective management of business is driven by understanding how it is performing through processes and measurement. It removes subjectivity and allows the business to deal in facts and not in assumptions and generalisation.
When dealing with suppliers, by all means push back on the estimates and quotations. But don’t squeeze too tightly, you may not get the quality you were looking for.
When in a meeting, it is important to make the content of what you are saying relevant to those listening. This is especially true for those who are more focused on themselves that others. To get their attention – you need to make it real for them.
Email is a great tool for communication. But it’s use just need to be managed otherwise meaning and communication can be lost and replaced simply by noise.
