iPhone – Can It Power Your Blog?

The other day, Eoin popped up a short blog on a rather funky payment app from Square. He thinks it’s rather cool as a small business owner! As a side effect, what was interesting to us was the relatively large increase in unique hits on that day.  He put iPhone into his title and voila – readership was assured.

I’ve been a bit bold here using the same tactics but it is for a valid reason as I find it poses an interesting challenge.

How do we generate interest in our own area of writing without having to utilise other companies profiles and brand? If a writer does this too often, people will see through it and start shouting “spammer”. If they don’t do it at all, how do they bring people to their blogs with the prevalence of writing that is out there now.

The answer you get is “great content” and “give people something”. When we write any blog, this is what we do (at least we hope so) as do most bloggers. The problem still remains – how do you get the readership in?

The hook is the title. It needs to be catchy to get attention and hopefully a click through into your post.  But that in itself will not be enough. The content then needs to be relevant to the reader and it’s at this point that you will be deemed a “spammer” or as someone worthy of reading and hopefully promotion. As our friend Jim says – write for people not for Google! He does and uses funky hooks in the title to get people interested.

We hope that people read and enjoy our blog for the content.  Perhaps we will achieve powerhouse brand status for MyProjectTracker that others will use to grab attention (wouldn’t that be nice!).

In the interim, we’ll work with strong “hooks” as titles with hopefully useful content for you, our readers.

What’s your view? How do you attract readers into your blog?

  • Hi Facundo. Thanks for the comment. I agree with you - the bait is definitely the title. Sugartone is underway - already prepared (well first bit anyway!)
  • I'd stick to writing for people, but why not put some bait in the title? Wouldn't go down to mentioning brands consistently though. I think you should go for SugarTone Barney and kick ass with one of your posts (and it's title of course)
  • I recently purchased an iPhone and I have published a post on smartphone applications and recorded a CinchCast on this topic. I look forward to your tips on great apps! :)
