Porridge – You Know It's Good For You But…!

.. it looks so nasty doesn’t it!

Ah, but add a bit of sweetness (honey if you’re healthy, or golden syrup and cream if you’re not!) and suddenly it’s not so bad.  You are getting healthy, nutritious food that can only do you good.

Every business has their porridge. Mine is having to do direct sales (getting revenue in really is important!) without being at all comfortable with it.

What is the porridge in your business? What is the sweetner that will make you eat it?

  1. My sweetener is a treat at the end of the day, week, month, or Qtr; to take the sting out of the nastiness and ensure there is something to look forward to after taking “the medicine”.

No sweetners or anything else added I’m afraid – not to suggest that that discredits your business theories :)

I don’t run a business, but as an engineer, some elements of process can be wearing – change management and release coordination and the likes. Re the sweetener: knowing from long experience what kind of problem scenarios I’m avoiding by following the process :)

  7. Thanks for the comment Dave. I too munch on porridge – but it defo requires a sweetner!

Great point on avoiding problem scenarios by following process. The balance on process is to make sure you have enough, but not enough that it starts becoming the main focus of the work rather than a tool to an end!
